Do you know Damian Thompson?

He disapproves of Counterknowledge:

Amazon : Damian Thompson Counterknowledge: How We Surrendered to Conspiracy Theories, Quack Medicine, Bogus Science and Fake History
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Counterknowledge-Surrendered-Conspiracy-Theories-Medicine/dp/1843546760/

I consider him a crank.

If you do not consider him a crank, look at this:

Amazon : Damian Thompson The Fix
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Fix-Damian-Thompson/dp/0007436084/

Now, this less than really genial person has pronounced himself about Mgr Williamson:

Blogs / The Telegraph : Damian Thompson : Neo-Nazi Holocaust deniers 'plan takeover' of SSPX, claim anti-Fascist campaigners
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/damianthompson/100218780/neo-nazi-holocaust-deniers-plan-takeover-of-sspx-claim-anti-fascist-campaigners/

Which is how I came to know about him.

Now, anyone who thinks that Thompson or people who think like Thompson are more qualified than I myself to run my life is a crook. Possibly a crank first, but a crook by sympathising with crooks, with slave hunters.

People taking Thompson's superstitious take on "The Fix" may think I am addicted to the internet. I am actually in the honest business of producing what he calls "Counterknowledge".

By the way, he does make a disclaimer that these words about Mgr Williamson come from antifascist campaigners. He does not make any kind of disclaimer that such a source makes the claim some kind of suspect counterknowledge./HGL

  1. Oh boy, apart from being a crank he is also an envy monger:

Dave takes helicopter instead of sweating on the train – and then wonders why people don't like him

David Cameron took a helicopter flight to his talk with the workers at Siemens factory in Lincoln. First off, he is Prime Minister unless I got it wrong. There are not hundreds or thousands of them at a time, their helicopter flights will not add up to doubling the tax burden or halving the old age pensions or doles, and probably not even to close a single hospital.

Second, if you are among those who find Prime Minister helicopter flights disgusting, you may also be among those who sympathise with Siemens workers. And if you do that, maybe you owe them, if not the person of David Cameron, an act of thankfulness for arriving fresh and able to listen to them.

If he did not listen anyway, that might be another story.

One that Thompson did not write about. Maybe even one that did not happen.

  2. Of course, one can wonder whether the visit was worth it at all, since it was basically supporting the installation of a Siemens factory, that had already happened.

Not about saving jobs by saving a factory threatened with close down.

Sorry, I was a bit in the French perspective:

Triviū, Quadriviū, 7 cætera : Pour Peugeot et Semblables

But supposing he saved no factory, saved no workers from unemployment, was a visit to Siemens really worth it? Not just worth the helicopter, but the voyage whatever means of transportation?

A question Damian Thompson did not really ask.
