Dialogue on Psychiatry

this evil is what stalin practiced. Monday is the anniversary of the death of stalin!!!!!!!!!march. also, google punitive psychiatry in Russia, current.
HGL
chruschev brought it to new heights ... stalin was more into gulag ...

"Third, a separate question, which presents a greater risk for someone with mental health problems and to which there is no simple answer - Can he spend six months in a psychiatric hospital and have a chance (if, of course, the doctors are humane and honourable) of being released because he has been ‘cured’ – or will he end up in a real prison for several years?"

Some stay years in psychiatry when prison would have been months!

From: Has punitive psychiatry returned to Russia?
Daniil Kotsyubinsky and Alexander Kotsyubinsky 17 October 2013
http://www.opendemocracy.net/od-russia/daniil-kotsyubinsky-alexander-kotsyubinsky/has-punitive-psychiatry-returned-to-russia

From same source:

"Second, psychiatrists in hospitals, where these ‘patients’ end up when they have been sentenced, don’t always behave like executioners. If a responsible psychiatrist sees that the patient who has been sent for compulsory treatment is not actually ill, then he simply goes through the motions, as it were, so as not to damage the health of this person. This is what happened with Soviet dissident Pyotr Grigorenko: twice he was sent to special clinics for compulsory treatment, but the doctors managed to avoid prescribing strong drugs for him."

This is an admission that strong drugs are hurtful. Meaning those legalised for psychiatrists to use in clinics. Or some of those. It is also an admission that some psychiatrists do behave like executioners.

"Firstly, a completely healthy person is not just given a false psychiatric diagnosis. What happens is that, at the request of the security services, psychiatrists diagnose someone with psychiatric disorder(s), which are not dangerous for either him or those around him, as more seriously ill than he is."

I have no reason to take this word for fact.

If by "completely healthy" you mean a person living a harmonic life, that would be something else, and indeed most who are in psychiatry are not living harmonic lives. Due to psychiatry, in part. But this chilling stepladder of degrees between harmonic life and madness means that people not mad are given diagnoses which if they do not really mean madness at least work as excuses for shutting up someone in a madhouse.

Last time I was for somewhat less than a week locked up in such a place I saw two people at least destroyed by drugs and one old man who was senile dement (who could have lived with some dignity at home if he had had a family able to keep him at home) and at the utmost one mad or possessed woman, possibly a witch. And her I only saw the last day. The rest were mentally sane, if one or two were what could be called "simples" and most were under a terrible strain which was at least partly due to the mental institution and the risk of landing up there again.

The article I quoted from was about a resister who had come into psychiatry. Of him the author (?)* said that he "has had mental health problems for some years." The problem with this approach is that ANYONE living under some strain can be described as having "mental health problems" and if this mean the situation worsens rather than betters, it can even be "for some years."

In other words, the world of mental health care is a goldmine for destroying loners. Step a) cause strain, step b) describe his living under a strain as a "mental health problem", step c) describe a situation in a way that calumniates the person's mental balance before mental health professionals ... I think you are able to figure the rest of it out.
PH
Hans I think dr Peter breggin is the man with the best answers. Further , so many now given haldol. A lady down the street lost her boyfriend and she was put on haldol. See below. Two spaces

I thought what happened. Overnite she lost her beauty and actually looked like she suddenly aged twenty years. Wow. Why do not the psychiatrists prescribe religion. A neighbour died from psycho drugs. I told him one day to return to church. He had left the church decades ago. He said to me that his psychiatrist did not prescribe church. I said to myself. Maybe he is a puppet?

Often psychiatrists call religion a disease. Many who have no religion yet can tell folks their religion a disease. I have heard of folks being given thorazine for devotion to rosary.

I met a nice catholic girl in school. She told me she spent a summer in a mental institution cause her Lutheran adopted parents were mad she interested in catholic faith. In the psyche ward she was told to remove her scapular. The program was to destroy her love of sacramentals. She refused to throw away her scapular. They made her sand chairs in solitary confinement for three days to get her to hate the brown scapular
HGL
Some drugs make reciting of rosary impossible. Happened to me while I was in such places. Last time as well as while serving normally a prison term but in transfer to psychiatry. Thank God I was on a prison term and had to be let out after doing the time!
PH
wow, well the founders of mental health were very very opposed to family life and the church. the quotes are available on line, all their lectures are precious to the UN

I read that many children in the Ukraine are placed in mental institutions for their summer vacations and put on major psycho drugs
HGL
how awful!
PH
and now how strong are they for this current war, and how they punished by psychiatrists ffor their hope in God, and punished with hard psycho drugs that also are chemical lobotomies ukranians here seem to happy with everything material here, that what happens in their home country often means little. I live near a ukranian village and the young are permissive also etc, not all. but the Sodom and gemorroh got in their blood stream as well, they dress immodest, listen to suggestive music, the real catholics in the Ukraine are not left to swim alone unless blessed mother intervenes

word is not, not, but now

Nationality of St Eucherius

http://www.archbishoplefebvre.com/1/post/2014/02/february-20th-st-eucherius.html

St. Eucherius was born in Orleans, France. ... He was sent away to Cologne in Germany.

Born in Orléans, France ... it was certainly in Gaul, and in Roman Empire, and in Francia as a Merovingian Kingdom getting close to Carlovingian Kingship, but it is a moot point whether it was already France.

(French as a written language did not exist, the divisions of Charlemagne's Empire between his three sons was not made yet ... it is a bit like describing Pontius Pilate as a native Italian, Spaniard or Frenchman whichever he was ...)

As with Cologne "in Germany" and Liège no doubt "in Belgium" ....

Someone posted a link to Bergoglio's words

First a picture of him shouting like a Pentecostal pastor (I have seen Chuck Missler more soberly intellectual than he is in this picture) with the text:

Jesus did not tell his disciples to "know him," but to "follow him".

Obviously this either is a direct quote or a summing up of his words. Here is more from the link:*

Vatican City, Feb 20, 2014 / 05:39 am (CNA).- In his daily homily, Pope Francis spoke about the importance of Christian discipleship, emphasizing the need for Christians to follow Jesus with their entire lives, not just intellectually.

“Jesus didn’t say to Peter and to his Apostles, ‘Know me!’ he said, ‘Follow me!’ And this following of Jesus makes us know Jesus,” explained Pope Francis on Feb. 20 to those gathered in the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta residence...

Then the Pope asked the congregation to consider the gospel calling in their personal lives.

“Let us look at Jesus, Peter, the apostles, and let us hear in our hearts this question: ‘Who am I for you?’”

“Like the disciples, let us ask the Father to give us the knowledge of Christ in the Holy Spirit,” he concluded.

A little commenting might not be a bad idea, here is what I wrote under the link:

The followers of Jesus came to know Him. But we can know Him through faith without being very active followers. As to what he told the disciples, these were not the first laymen, but the first bishops. A man who cannot distinguish between what a layman needs to do to save his soul and what a bishop has to do to save many souls does not sound to me like a Catholic bishop, but like a Protestant in sheep's clothing.

"Like the disciples, let us ask the Father to give us the knowledge of Christ in the Holy Spirit,” he concluded.

They were praying in one way for knowing Christ better through the Holy Spirit, insofar as He was to remind them of all that He had said and done ever all over the three years. But in another way they were obviously praying to serve Him, to accomplish His commands, while all the while knowing Him very well indeed already. He had just given them one 40 day's crash course in Old Testament exegesis.

Perhaps the man who is considered by many the successor, and legitimately so, of the principal disciple St Peter, has forgotten this because this crash course would have been the obvious occasion for Christ to tell them the received interpretation of Genesis 1 and 2 as literal history was wrong - IF it was wrong. And Bergoglio is not exactly known to distance himself very actively from the errors of Georges Lemaître or Teilhard de Chardin ... errors which could only have been the truth if Christ had said that back in those forty days between Resurrection and Ascension.

And Jesus did not ask "who am I for you" at Caesarea Phlippi as if wanting to know how much He was worth to them, what they were prepared to sacrifice, He asked "who do you say that I am" as asking them to reveal their doctrine.

In a sense Bergoglio is also revealing his doctrine, but it sounds strange after St Peter's Thou art the Son of the Living God.

And in a very real sense He did not have to tell them to know Him, because they already did know Him through the Scriptures. They did know the angels that had visited Abraham and that had saved Lot. They did know the angel who fought with Jacob. They did know the God who had spoken in the Burning Bush. And so on.

This I wrote on FB, this I republish here.

"4:31 CHL says the geocentric position “has no laws, no math, no physics.”

Obviously CHL has not read most of the treatises on geocentrism produced by qualified scientists, and CHL does not understand the logical conclusions of either Newtonian, Machian or Einsteinian physics, since each of them make the geocentric universe viable."

As I recall the video, CHL is referring to Helios as an explanation. Very obviously a Christian cannot believe the Sun is being manned by a cousin of the Most High or by a son of a Titan preceding him in the role and now in the Tartaros.

But with equal obviousness, a Christian can very well believe Sun and Moon and Planets and Stars are manned by angelic beings. Baruch chapter 3. Job 38. The Song of the Three Young Men in the complete version of Daniel Chapter 3. And Summa Theologica I, Q 70 (A3?)

Note very well, since I was just reading up on St Hippolytus' commentary of Daniel (book II chapters 29 - 34) that the Song of the Three Young Men very definitely excludes any spirits dominating any part of cosmos independently of God. But "independently of God" is precisely what I am not saying. A Helios that is a creature and servant and adorer of the Most High is not the same thing as a "Helios, son of Hyperion who was brother of Kronos of the Crooked Thoughts" whom they considered father of "the most high" after coming to believe Hesiods false private revelation.

Note that St Hippolytus considers that the fire which spared the young men and burnt the guilty executioners was "phronimos", wise.

Note also the fact that Nabuchodonosor well before Pilate and Longinus identified Our Lord (but could not name him, since he had not yet been born of the Virgin and named Jesus) in the fourth young man who did not come out.

Galileo Was Wrong : Debunking David Palm, Phase 4
http://galileowaswrong.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Debunking_David_Palm_Phase_4.pdf

The first commenter was not I but MW. When I comment I am not at first answering him, but when he answers me, I do answer him, and I insert that dialogue into the right context here before getting on to the continual comment on the text.

Mark Wyatt
David is way off base. Even the opposition to geocentrism within the Church (e.g., Father Coyne for instance) recognizes the weight of these decisions, and complained about them after JPII's speech to the PAS on Galileo. JPII did nothing to reverse the decisions, and Coyne and others were pretty upset.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
I am myself slowly working around to a refutation of Palm but also Phil Provaznik and others, I am not totally in a hurry, and I am not sure Robert has not made some blunders. Here is one I suspect:

R. Sungenis
since the 1616 and 1633 Church was not talking about the sun’s relationship to the universe, but only the relative or “local” frame between the sun and the earth.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Where does the document say so? Where does anything in the background of the document make it even probable?
Mark Wyatt
It is pretty clear from the text. They really did not know about the "universe" at that time. They would at least have mentioned "the stars" to indicate something beyond the sun and earth. That is my take.

Hans-Georg Lundahl (in aswer to MW)
Well, the usual take back then was that stars were the outermost layer of the visible universe, and a layer exactly like the sphere of the Sun (in Geocentrism) or of the Earth (in the condemned Heliocentrism).

One sign of this was the reasoning between Galileo and St Robert Bellarmine about parallax. If Stars are both a layer and fixed then we get a pretty uniform parallax giving a pretty uniform distance to that layer in case that Earth be moving as soon as we get telescopes good enough but no parallax at all ever in case it is the Sun that is moving. However what was found in 1838 means that stars are either not a layer or not fixed. If the 0.76 arc seconds back and forth annually of alpha Centauri are a real parallax, then stars are no layer, since not all of them show 0.76 arc seconds (or the closest in angle to alpha Centauri 0.76 arc seconds and the other values on a sliding continuous scale upward and downward according to position in sky), and this is what modern cosmology fixes itself on. But if the 0.76 arc seconds are not parallactic but a real movement in the star itself, then stars may be a layer and are not fixed and the 0.76 arc seconds for alpha Centauri phenomenon, not being a parallax, is no proof for a moving Earth.

"Not knowing about" the universe as per 1930's standard cosmology does not preclude making pronouncements on it by the pronouncements made on the things they did know about.

What was at stake was the immobile centre of the whole universe. Noone either then or now would agree on Earth being centre of a Solar System which itself is not central and perhaps not even immobile. The one option for Geocentrism is Earth being stationary in the centre of all the universe and that either includes "all the galaxies" (as per 1930's cosmology) circling Earth each day or - my favourite option - "all the galaxies" being really a mathematical byproduct of erroneous Heliocentrism, universe being lots smaller and the distant starlight problem a pseudoproblem.

Hans-Georg Lundahl resuming reading of the paper

R. Sungenis
Yes, strict Copernicanism will never be held again, but the 1616 and 1633 did not condemn “strict Copernicanism” but any cosmology that made the Earth revolve around the sun, whether it was Pythagoras, Galileo, Foscarini, Copernicus or Kepler. Mr. Palm keeps avoiding this fact because it would destroy his argument.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
It condemned as heretical any cosmology that made the sun immobile centre of the universe. It condemned as at least erroneous any cosmology that made earth orbit anything else, whether sun or moon or whatever. If the sun in such a case were immobile, then it would fall under first condemnation and it would be heretical. If the sun is however itself moving, we are dealing with "at least erroneous".

R. Sungenis
The simple answer is that the Church has never officially overturned the specific condemnations against Galileo and his heliocentric theories. Only back‐handed attempts to bypass the 1616 and 1633 decrees were attempted in 1820 and 1835, and then only by fabricating evidence.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Fabricated evidence could indeed be right. BUT "only attempts" asks the question of the power of popes in non stated things. Neither Pope stated that the Galilean position was no longer heretical, or at least not the first of them. But both Popes allowed books about it to be printed.

D. Palm
In short, I’ve demonstrated that the Magisterium of the Catholic Church does not now and never did put forward geocentrism as a matter of faith.

R. Sungenis
Robert Bellarmine made it very clear that geocentrism was a matter of faith because it was the testimony of Scripture. Pope Paul V approved of Bellarmine’s assessment, and no pope or cardinal thereafter ever stated officially that Bellarmine’s thesis was incorrect.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
This brings up a question of whether something is De Fide or De Fide Definita. No Pope has really denied (I have not looked at 1835 yet) that Geocentrism is De Fide. But since 1820 and 1835 noone has treated it as De Fide Definita either. From the Vatican that is.

D. Palm
In stark contrast to the tabloid‐like story being sold by the geocentrists in books and on video, I’ve no need of recourse to dark conspiracy theories, allegations of subterfuge, or ecclesiastical malfeasance.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Have a little look at Orthodox Church in Russia (those faithful to Patriarch in Moscow). They cowed in to Evolutionists and Heliocentrics in the Government which would otherwise be persecuting faithful for instance in school. The situation is not quite new. Look at the Church in France during the days of Providentissimus Deus. Ask yourself who Jules Ferry and Émile Combes were!

And ask yourselves if Humani Generis 1950 cannot have been something similar.

When people treat something as defined as licit or new rule, when that is not the case and when standing up for the old rule would be a bit awkward for some faithful - I do not think that priests taking "calculated risks" about orthodoxy and being devious before their faithful is quite over the top when it comes to "conspiracies".

"The Magisterium Has Never Stated that the Fathers are Unanimous on Geocentrism"

D. Palm
At the very start of this study we need to get one thing completely straight. The Magisterium of the Catholic Church has never said that the Fathers are unanimous on the matter of geocentrism. The geocentrists have no magisterial support for their view. Period. Let’s recall again the words of Pope Pius XII: “there are but few texts whose sense has been defined by the authority of the Church, nor are those more numerous about which the teaching of the Holy Fathers is unanimous.”

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Pius XII or Leo XIII? Because Pius XII is a bit suspect ... and who says the Magisterium needs to state that a certain rule of faith includes a certain ruling in order for a Catholics to know that it does?

How come Robert Sungenis missed that point?

D. Palm
Thus, given what Pius XII says, the burden of proof is entirely on the geocentrists to demonstrate any alleged unanimity – a burden which they have failed to meet, to say the least.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Does Palm count John of Kronstadt as a saint and a Church Father?

Or if not, would Palm state one CF who does either doubt or deny the earth is stationary when attending to that point? He cited one who said "such a man discovered" the opposite - in a list on Mathematical discoveries.

No Flat Earth believing Church Father (there were a few) can be supposed to have doubted earth is stationary, since Heliocentrism and other forms of Geokinesis are supposing round earth as a preliminary. St Basil was neutral on the form of earth. And St Augustine who thought the earth round was also clearly Geocentric.

R. Sungenis
We will only admit that Cardinal Olivieri fabricated evidence to convince Pius VII to give an imprimatur to Canon Settele. We will only admit that since Cardinal Cappallari served on the same commission as Cardinal Olivieri, and then became Gregory XVI and removed Galileo from the 1835 Index without any explanation whatsoever, that he was also influenced by Olivieri’s facile arguments.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
I would tend to agree. but Pius VII was Pope unless he was heretical for accepting Napoleon as Emperor. And if he was Pope then Gregory XVI was Pope unless he was heretical prior to conclave - by acceptance of Heliocentrism. Now, this is not quite a small issue, Gregory XVI is famous - or on other sides infamous - for Mirari Vos.

Now, there is also the question: can a Pope validly such, but deciding a question of doctrine on wrong evidence:

  • a) validly bind;
  • b) validly unbind but not validly bind;
  • c) or not even validly unbind?

Whichever case you take on either Canonic question, you cannot possibly pretend either of the two bound us to accept Heliocentrism. Nor did any successor.

D. Palm
But, more importantly for our present point, this decree says nothing about any consensus of the Fathers in support of its anti‐Copernican stance. That clause in the consultants’ report was intentionally removed before this decree was issued.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Intentionally not cited as redundant. The Decrees of Trent do not either cite consensus of the Church Fathers in each condemnation of a Lutheran or Zwinglian or Anabaptist or Socinian position.

R. Sungenis
Again, this is an argument from silence. The decree doesn’t need to reiterate the consensus of the Fathers. It only needs to state the basic point, and that point has never changed. The point is that it is wrong to say the Earth revolves around the sun.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
It is wrong to say sun stands still and it is wrong to say earth revolves (around itself or around sun or both) - but theological note as to wrongness IN FAITH is not the same. A merely relative Heliocentrism which admits the Sun is also moving, but earth moving around it was only condemned as "at least erroneous". But also as philosophically false.

Here is a bit of a crux, fourth session, as cited:

Furthermore, in order to curb impudent clever persons, the synod decrees that no one who relies on his own judgment in matters of faith and morals, which pertain to the building up of Christian doctrine, and that no one who distorts the Sacred Scripture according to his own opinions, shall dare to interpret the said Sacred Scripture contrary to that sense which is held by Holy Mother Church, whose duty it is to judge regarding the true sense and interpretation of Holy Scriptures, or even contrary to the unanimous consent of the Fathers, even though interpretations of this kind were never intended to be brought to light.
- The Council of Trent, Fourth Session, 1563

This decree uses the present "that sense which is held by Holy Mother Church" - and I suspect that many Heliocentrics are:

  • a) believing Church is at present teaching Heliocentrism and Millions of Years (when there is no such statement and when statements at least such as obviously imply the opposite unless there was some big oversight are still and eternally valid);

  • b) believing a sense held by the Church even contrary to previous senses held by the Church (not just filling in blanks what was not decided before but actually contradicting) can be truly of the Church.

I obviously deny their second point here.

But here is the confession:

The Apostolic and ecclesiastical traditions and all other observances andconstitutions of that same Church I most firmly admit and embrace. I likewise accept Holy Scripture according to that sense which our Holy Mother Church had held and does hold, whose it is to judge of the true meaning and interpretation of the Sacred Scriptures; I shall never accept nor interpret it otherwise than in accordance with the unanimous consent of the Fathers.
- The Profession of Faith of the Council of Trent

"that sense which our Holy Mother Church had held and does hold"

perfect and present - no authorisation to contradict a sense previously taught.

[Obviously: by the Church as a whole.]

Session 4 "tenet" and confession "tenuit atque tenet" ... if on St Valentine's Day a gal lets an English speaker (US, UK, NZ, Oz) wait, he is likely to tell her (if that is the time he has been waiting):

"I have been waiting for an hour now."

But if instead he is a Swede imperfectly grasping English, he is likely to say

"I have waited for an hour now."

And if he is French he is likely to say:

"I am waiting for an hour now" ...

But because French does not have distinction simple vs continuous in present any more than Swedish in perfect, he might also say:

"I wait for an hour now."

And that is how Latin also uses the present tense [in such connexions]. Session 4 obviously means "sense which the Church has been holding". But since some people came across with the idea that Swedes and Germans with an imperfect graps of Latin might be required to confess, the confession uses a less idiomatic expression to make it clear even to someone to whom the present would mean "sense which Church holds right now", that this is not what is meant, but one is obliged to the sense which Church "has held and [still] holds" = an exact logical translation of "has been holding".

Friend of that friend:
Many homeless people are mentally ill and some even prefer to be homeless. ... I read the memorie of a girl who was raised homeless and her parents were nuts. ... It's funny, in the end of the book "The Glass Castle" the homeless girl was able to get herself to college and had to listen to a lecture from a professor going on about the plight of the homeless and she challenged him that he was wrong. This woman was raised homeless, in the end she found out that her mother had about $1 million in property. Not all homeless are like this, but a good percentage are mentally unstable and some prefer life on the streets.
Other friend of that friend:
I once heard that nearly half of all homeless people are mentally ill. If stupid people hadn't called for the defunding of mental hospitals based on what they saw in the movies, this wouldn't be happening.
Me:
It is very much better to be homeless than to be in Mental Hospital.

The so called Statistics saying that "half the homeless are mentally ill" are made up by people observing the homeless with training acquired from the pseudo-science of psychiatry.

That means that such statistics are worthless.

What could be informative is trying to find out how many homeless are kept on the street by people CONSIDERING them as mentally ill and who have sufficient "credibility" with people to make those kinds of statistics.

I am now unfriending [that friend], not for being friends with Pat, but for being friends with other people who like to consider homeless people as mentally ill.
